14th Asantehene; restorer of the Asantehene-ship in 1935 CE after 39 years of British colonial suppression (1896-1935); modern-era founder of the Asante traditional-state institutional revival. Born November 11, 1892 CE; member of the royal Oyoko clan-line. In 1935 CE, the British colonial administration formally restored the Asantehene-ship; Prempeh II was installed as the 14th Asantehene, partially reversing the post-1896 imperial dissolution and re-establishing the Asantemanhyiamu (royal council) and the imperial-Asante ritual calendar. Through the late colonial period (1935-1957) and Ghanaian independence (1957), rebuilt the Asante imperial-state institutions: the Asantemanhyiamu, the imperial ritual calendar (Adae Festival, Akwasidae, Awukudae), the Manhyia palace administration, and the Asante traditional-state legal system. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1937 (Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II). After Ghanaian independence in 1957, navigated the relationship between the modern Ghanaian state under Kwame Nkrumah and the Asante traditional-state, preserving the Asantehene-ship as central traditional-cultural institution of modern Ghana. Died May 27, 1970 CE. The Asantehene-ship continues as the central traditional-cultural-political institution of modern Ghana, with the current Otumfuo Osei Tutu II (acceded 1999) as the 16th Asantehene. parentIds left empty per registry conventions for matrilineal-succession figures.
