Mergen is the heavenly deity of wisdom and sovereign judgement in the Altai pantheon documented by Anokhin, his name meaning both "the wise" and "the unerring marksman." He dwells on an upper layer of the sky near the sun and is invoked as a source of intellect and knowledge. He completes the fraternal triad of ruling powers alongside Ülgen, holder of creation, and Kyzaghan, holder of war, all descending from the supreme celestial sovereign.
