The sea-giant Wade (Old Norse Vaði), father of Wayland the Smith. Famous in a lost Germanic legend (Chaucer twice alludes to "Wade's boat"); in Þiðreks saga he carries his son Velent on his shoulders through the sea to apprentice him to the smiths.
