Mankóite is a malevolent spirit that dwells in the ravines and gullies along the rivers of Asháninka country. Of human shape but ordinarily invisible, it is said to live much as outsiders do, its dwelling full of goods; to encounter it is an omen of death. It belongs to the demonic order of the lower world opposed to the hidden good spirits.
