K'k'ira is a deity of the Karata Avars of the Akhvakh district, described in the ethnographic record as strikingly polyfunctional: a single power presiding at once over the hunt, over farming and fertility, and over war and the fortunes of raiding parties. Such a concentration of spheres in one figure is read by scholars as the remnant of an older tribal high god whose competences were later parcelled out among more specialized patrons. K'k'ira stands apart from the common-Avar sky lords, a local supreme figure preserved in the traditions of one Andic-speaking Avar community.
