Huixtocihuatl

Huixtocihuatl was invented by an argument. The Florentine Codex has her as the eldest sister of the rain gods, who offended them somehow and was thrown out of the fresh water — so she went to live in the salt and made salt there, which is the Mexica explanation for why the lake around Tenochtitlan was brackish and the springs were not. Her people were the salt-makers working the brine flats, and they kept her festival themselves, dancing in ropes of flowers before her impersonator was taken to Tlaloc's temple and killed there. The record links her to no one, because her one kin claim points at a collective — the rain gods — rather than a figure the registry carries.
