Malinalxochitl

Malinalxochitl is the sister the Mexica left asleep. The migration story has her travelling with them and frightening them — she could turn people's eyes, send scorpions, make a river bend — until Huitzilopochtli told the people to move on while she slept. She woke, found herself abandoned with her followers, and founded Malinalco. The story matters because her son grew up on it: Copil came looking for Huitzilopochtli, and what happened to him is the reason Tenochtitlan is where it is.
