Nappatecuhtli

Nappatecuhtli is the god of the mat. The petate — a reed mat — is what a Mexica household slept on, sat on, dried maize on and was eventually buried in, and it comes out of the lake reeds; so the god who makes the reeds grow is the patron of the people who cut and weave them. The Florentine Codex's account of him is unusually warm: he is called merciful, and the gifts attributed to him are green and growing things rather than storms. Rain gods in this pantheon are not all frightening.
