Mandarangan
Bagobo · deity · Bagobo traditional religion; continuing · deity
Mandarangan is the Bagobo god of war, who dwells with his wife Darago in the crater at the summit of Mount Apo, the sacred volcano. He is the patron of the magani, the warriors who have taken the requisite number of lives and who wear the blood-red garments of their order. At the great ginem ceremony, offerings that in earlier times included human sacrifice were made to Mandarangan and Darago to secure health, valor, wealth, and success in war; the spirits of brave warriors were believed to join him after death.
