Azraka is the king of the divs, the demonic beings of Bashkir myth, and one of the chief adversaries of Ural. Lord of a fortress-realm and guardian of hoarded waters, he joins with the serpent-kings and with the fallen Shulgen against the hero. In their titanic combat Ural slays him, and the div-king's enormous body sinks to earth and hardens into a mountain that dams the rising flood, one of several episodes in which the epic derives the features of the Ural landscape from the corpses of its monsters.
