Fanu'el is the fourth of the archangels of the presence in the Book of Enoch, the Geez scripture canonical to Beta Israel, completing the quartet with Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. He is set over the repentance and hope of those who will inherit eternal life, and his special office is to turn back the accusing spirits, the satans, so that they may not bring charges against the dwellers on earth before the Lord of Spirits. Sources differ on whether Fanuel and Uriel are the same angel under two names, since some Enochic lists give Uriel in his place.
