Gabra'el is one of the four archangels who stand before the throne of God in the Book of Enoch, the Geez scripture canonical to Beta Israel. He is set over Paradise and the serpents and, with Michael, Raphael and Fanuel, is commissioned to bind and punish the rebel Watchers before the Flood. In Beta Israel liturgy he is invoked among the guardian angels of the four quarters.
