Pithori Rani

Bhil · deity · perennial · deity

Pithori Rani is the queenly consort of the horse-lord Baba Pithora in the ritual art and mythology of the Bhil, Bhilala and Rathwa communities of eastern Gujarat and western Madhya Pradesh. In the Pithora wall paintings, executed inside houses to fulfil vows made to Baba Pithora, she appears among the chief mounted deities beside her husband, portrayed as a celestial and devoted wife ready to assist him in all his endeavours. Villagers also turn to her in years when the monsoon is erratic, seeking her help for timely rain.
