Alla is the name under which the Muslim Buduma address the supreme God, and ethnographers of the lake islands record that the inherited creator Kumani and the Alla of Islam are largely identified with one another. Whether the two were ever wholly distinct is unclear; observers describe a single high god approached both through the older cult and through the practices of folk Islam that overlie the lake and cattle rites.
