Kuri

Buduma · numen · Buduma traditional religion; continuing · numen

The Kuri are the Buduma's amphibious lake cattle, famous for their enormous bulbous horns, which serve as floats as the herds swim between islands and pastures. They stand at the centre of the Buduma cattle-and-water cult, tended and ritually protected as the tradition's chief wealth and the pledge of the lake's favour. The same name denotes a neighbouring island people, and sources differ on the connection between the herds, that people, and the older strata of the cult.
