I We Cudai, Princess of Cina

I We Cudai is the princess of the kingdom of Cina and the mirror-double of We Tenriabeng, resembling Sawerigading's forbidden twin so closely that she can lawfully take her place as his bride. The long, tempestuous courtship of Sawerigading and I We Cudai — including the felling of the great Welenrengnge tree to build the ship that carries him to her — is the most celebrated episode of the whole Sureq Galigo. From their union is born I La Galigo, after whom the entire epic cycle is named.
