Rahmay
Canaanite · deity · cosmogonic · deity
Rahmay appears in one tablet and has been argued about ever since — whether she is a goddess in her own right, an epithet of Anat, or a doublet of Athirat is unresolved, and this record does not resolve it. What the text says is that El fathers the twins on two women and that she is one of them, and her name is built on the root that gives both 'womb' and 'mercy', which is the same double meaning the Hebrew Bible works with constantly.
