Yuxibu
Cashinahua · deity · Cashinahua traditional religion; continuing · deity
Yuxibu is the creative principle of Cashinahua cosmology, the great yuxin whose name is the augmentative of yuxin, soul or vital force, and may be rendered master of souls. He is spoken of as the one who created everything and creates still, so that the world is not a finished object but an ongoing work; the powers that animate animals, plants and places are so many yuxin under his mastery. Language itself is counted among his gifts, the medium through which the people remain bound to forest, spirits and cosmos. Rather than a remote first cause, Yuxibu names the persisting agency behind transformation, the same power that a shaman negotiates with when he convokes the yuxin to heal.
