King Wen of Zhou

Chinese · mortal · shang · mortal

Wen and Wu, the civil founder and the martial one, are the template every later Chinese dynasty wrote its own founding against, and the Yijing's hexagram statements are traditionally ascribed to him — composed, the tradition says, while he was King Zhou's prisoner. The registry held no Zhou at all, which for a corpus carrying the Xia through Yu the Great and Qi is a strange place to have stopped.
