Jingwei

Her parentage is given in the sources as Yandi, the Flame Emperor, who is identified with Shennong in the standard reckoning — the record uses the corpus's existing Shennong and says so rather than opening a second record for a second name. 'Jingwei fills the sea' is the Chinese idiom for a hopeless task pursued anyway, the companion piece to Kuafu chasing the sun, and between them they are the two commonest metaphors in the language for persistence.
