Mortal scholar of legend; husband of Sanshengmu; father of Chen Xiang. The encounter at the Mount Hua shrine during the thunderstorm is the archetypal mortal-meets-mountain-goddess episode in Chinese popular narrative. Some traditions give him a second mortal wife (Wang Guiying) producing Chen Xiang's half-siblings; registry defers those entries.
