Reference treatment of the individual Courts of Diyu: the SECOND COURT under Chujiang Wang punishes corrupt officials, dishonest doctors and those who harmed others through deception, and its sinners face the Mountain of Ice, where they freeze in eternal cold. The THIRD COURT under Songdi Wang deals with ungrateful children, those who disrespected elders, and people who incited discord within families, and its punishment involves having one's heart torn out repeatedly, symbolising the pain they caused their families. The FOURTH COURT under Wuguan Wang punishes tax evaders, business cheats and those who wasted food, who are ground between millstones or forced to embrace red-hot metal pillars. The SIXTH COURT under Biancheng Wang punishes those who desecrated sacred texts, complained against heaven, misused religious teachings or showed disrespect to the Sanbao, and its sinners are sawn in half or crushed under boulders. The SEVENTH COURT under Taishan Wang deals with grave robbers, those who sold or consumed human flesh, and violators of burial customs, whose punishments include being steamed alive or having the intestines pulled out. The EIGHTH COURT, called Hot Suffocation Hell, is ruled by Dushi Wang and judges crimes of filial impiety, with sixteen sub-hells for those who caused their parents suffering; King Dushi also sentences cheating during examinations and harming others to benefit oneself. The NINTH COURT, called Iron Web, is ruled by Pingdeng Wang, who is the final checkpoint before rebirth: his job is to catch anything the previous eight courts missed, reviewing the entire case file and checking for clerical errors. The TENTH COURT, the Wheel of Rebirth, is ruled by Zhuanlun Wang, literally 'King of the Turning Wheel', who does not punish anyone but assigns the next life; Lady Meng Po gives the Tea of Forgetfulness there, which erases the memory of the punishments, and souls then pass through the Wheel of Reincarnation to be reborn as human or animal according to the past life.
