Taowu
Chinese · numen · mythic prehistory · numen
His name became the title of a genre: Taowu is what the state of Chu called its official history, on the argument that a record of bad acts is the most useful kind, and later Chinese writers used the word for a chronicle of wickedness. A monster who lends his name to historiography is unusual and worth keeping on the record. Zhuanxu, from whom the Zuo Zhuan descends him, is already in the corpus.
