The naming taboo is worth keeping on the record because it dates the transformation: a constellation-figure of the Four Symbols becomes a personal deity with a martial biography, and the moment the state renames him is the moment that transformation is complete enough for the state to care. The temple complex on Wudang Mountain is his, and it was built by the Yongle emperor, who had usurped a throne and needed a martial god of the north on his side.
