Mortal scholar of legend; husband of the descended goddess Yáojī; father of Erlang Shen. In the Erlang's-sister tradition stratum he is also the father of Sanshengmu/Yang Chan, making the Yang clan the producer of two famous demigods. Surname Yáng (楊) accordingly carries the patronymic for both Erlang (Yáng Jiǎn 楊戩) and Yang Chan (楊嬋).
