TACITUS SAYS THE GERMANIC PEOPLES WORSHIP MERCURY ABOVE ALL OTHERS, AND EVERY MODERN READER TAKES THAT TO MEAN WODAN. This record does not: it holds the inscription's own pairing, and the identification with the Wodan ingested in this same batch is left unasserted, because it is the same class of claim as reading Mars Thingsus as Tiw.
