Tuisto
Continental Germanic · deity · continental germanic mythic origins · deity
THE FIRST GERMANIC FIGURE NAMED IN ANY WRITTEN SOURCE, AND THE REGISTRY DID NOT HOLD HIM. sex is recorded as unknown deliberately: the name is usually read as 'the twofold one' and the figure has been taken as a hermaphrodite, which is a reading of the etymology and not a statement of Tacitus's, and this record will not assert either. No cross-tradition edge is drawn to the Norse Ymir, whom the corpus holds: the comparison is a scholarly proposal and this registry does not write edges on proposals.
