Mavíchikori is the spirit of death in Hehénewa metaphysics, and paradoxically the author of generation. In a cosmos where the creators had brought forth only male beings and where sexual reproduction threatened the purity of male status, it is Mavíchikori who institutes the first marriage, joining the two sets of gods, the Anacondas and the Kúwaiwa. In doing so he initiates the first sexual intercourse and so sexual reproduction, and with it human mortality, of which he remains the master. Death and procreation thus enter the world together, as two faces of a single act.
