Iah

Egyptian · deity · mythic · deity

Iah is what happens to a god who is only a noun. The word means 'moon', it gets used as a divine name, and then two better-established gods — Thoth, who counts time, and Khonsu, who travels the sky at Thebes — take the moon over between them and Iah is left as an element in compounds and in personal names. The registry already held Ahmose, whose name means 'the moon is born'; it did not hold the moon.
