Mehit is the distant one Anhur is named for leading back. The Distant Goddess story is one of the most-told in Egypt: the Eye of Ra takes offence, leaves for Nubia in the form of a lioness, and has to be coaxed or fetched home before the land can flourish again — a myth about the inundation coming up from the south, told as a family argument. Several goddesses play the part; at Thinis it is Mehit, and her husband's name is the record of the errand.
