Menhit
Egyptian · deity · old kingdom · deity
Menhit goes first and burns things. She belongs to the large Egyptian class of lioness war goddesses — Sekhmet, Mehit, Pakhet, Bastet in her fierce mood — who are all, in one text or another, the Eye of Ra, and who are all the same idea: the sun's heat aimed at somebody. At Esna she is Khnum's wife, which is the ordinary arrangement whereby a god has a different consort in each of his towns and nobody minds.
