Eare
Elema · demigod · primordial · demigod
Eare is the second of the two named figures of the Orokolo myth 'Marai and Eare', one of the three Elema clan myths recorded in the Toaripi language and published with translation and annotation by Herbert A. Brown in 1988; an independent telling, 'A Legend about Mairi and Eare', appeared in the journal Oral History in 1978. The lou-oharo (clan myths) in which Eare features functioned as narrative charters of clan identity among the Elema of Orokolo Bay, Papua New Guinea.
