Mean

Etruscan · deity · classical · deity

Mean is the goddess who crowns. On the backs of Etruscan mirrors she is the winged figure holding out or settling a wreath on a victor's head, and Hercle is among those she crowns as he is received into the company of the gods. Her name is inscribed beside her in those scenes, which is why she can be recorded as an individual figure rather than an anonymous Victory. There is no cult site, no festival and no story attached to her: she is known by what she does in pictures.
