The Lamp-Bearer

Fijian · deity · mythic · deity

Entered as a deity (a kalou). The brief proposed him as a son of Degei, but his filiation is NOT firmly attested — the sources say his parentage varies by locale, and the only genealogies given (the Cakaudrove 'gone mai wai', child-from-the-sea) do not lead back to Degei; the Degei link is a loose modern 'holy trinity' framing. Per the accuracy rule he is therefore entered kinless (see SOLITARY flag) rather than asserted as Degei's son. The name is securely glossed (cina = lamp/torch).
