Mortal Finnish woman and mother of the lover-hero Lemminkäinen. Her gathering of her son's dismembered body from the river of the dead and his resurrection by a bee-honey incantation (Kalevala Canto 15) is among the most-celebrated episodes of the epic, immortalized in Akseli Gallen-Kallela's painting "Lemminkäinen's Mother" (1897).
