ONE RECORD FOR TWO ROLES, AND THE JOIN IS THE NAME AND NOT AN ARGUMENT. A god of oats in 1551 and a baptiser in 1849 share a name; the record carries both attestations and does not explain how the one became the other, because the treatments consulted do not. That a Christianised figure performs the baptism that ends the pagan age is the poem's own arrangement and not this record's reading of it.
