The Sun
Foi · numen · Foi traditional religion; continuing · numen
The sun is a personified sky-being whose daily crossing orders Foi reckonings of time. In the celestial lore recorded for Lake Kutubu it is paired with the moon; the two are variously cast as kin or as rivals. Foi religion accords the sky-beings a modest place, its cosmological attention resting far more on the ghosts of the dead and on the spirits of bush and water.
