Kuruma is the Fur chief whose household provides the hinge of the origin legend. When the lamed Arab stranger Ahmad al-Maqur arrives, Kuruma is married to a daughter of the Keira chief; he divorces her and bestows her upon his gifted guest, and from that union springs Daali, reckoned the first ruler of the Keira line. Kuruma thus stands at the junction where an older Fur chieftaincy yields to the incoming dynastic charter, a figure remembered almost entirely for the marriage he relinquished rather than for any deeds of his own. He appears only in certain recensions of the legend, and traditions that make Daali a direct son of al-Maqur pass over him.
