Kiwiwiole is an ancestral culture hero of the Lulauvile, the Kalauna clan that holds the hereditary magic of food and prosperity. He belongs to the cycle of tradition surrounding the manumanua ritual, by which the guardians 'anchor' the village's plenty and keep the food from wandering away. Accounts of his deeds are held as the property of particular lineages, and the details preserved in the ethnographic record are fragmentary.
