Oyatabu

Oyatabu, the great sacred mountain that dominates the interior of Goodenough Island, is revered as a locus of ancestral and spirit power rather than as an anthropomorphic deity. Its heights are associated in tradition with the abode of the dead and with the potency drawn upon by the island's magicians, and its name marks it as forbidden and sacred ground.
