Silvius

Roman · quartigod · post trojan war · quartigod

Quartigod posthumous son of Aeneas by Lavinia. Founder of the canonical Silvian dynasty of Alba Longa — the royal line that would terminate in Numitor, Rhea Silvia, and Romulus. Born in the Latin silva (woodland) where his pregnant mother fled fearing Ascanius's succession; the forest-birth aetiology cited by Livy 1.3.6 for the dynastic cognomen "Silvius" that became the standing patronymic of every subsequent Alban king.
