Merope

Mortal queen of Messenia, daughter of Cypselus of Arcadia; wife of the Heraclid Cresphontes and mother of Aepytus. After the usurpation by Polyphontes she preserved her youngest son in Arcadia, and the recognition and vengeance she shares with the grown Aepytus is the matter of the lost Euripidean Cresphontes that Aristotle singles out.
