Hasamili

Hattic · deity · mythic · deity

Hasamili (Ḫašamili, Ḫašammili) is a god of Hattic origin who served as a divine smith and as an apotropaic protector of the household and of children; texts link him with the bronze hammer and with building work, and he was believed able to hide those under his protection from sight. From the Hattian milieu he was received into the Hittite, Palaic and Luwian pantheons, standing in Palaic cult beside Ziparwa and Kataḫzipuri, while in Hittite cult he keeps company with chthonic powers such as Lelwani and the fate-goddesses. He also plays a role, imperfectly understood, in the mythological fragment concerning Ḫaḫḫima (Frost).
