Teteshapi

Hattic · deity · mythic · deity

Teteshapi (Tetešḫapi), whose Hattic name is commonly rendered 'great deity', is a Hattian goddess of wild nature and the hunt with an unusually rich festival tradition of her own: large parts of her liturgy are recited in Hattic, and her rites at Tawiniya during the purulli festival season unfolded in and around the temple of Telipinu, with dancers and performers appearing in the guise of wild beasts such as the leopard and the wolf. At the climax of her celebrations the goddess answers those who invoke her through the mouth of her priestess, the NIN.DINGIR, a rare instance of staged divine speech in Hittite cult.
