THE MOST-READ TEXT IN THE TRADITION IS THIS MAN TALKING. The Bhagavad Gita is framed throughout as his report — the verses that open and close it are his, and every 'Krishna said' in it is inside his speech — and the corpus held Krishna, Arjuna, the chariot, the field and the blind king, and not the narrator. A registry of figures that holds a conversation without its reporter is holding the conversation at second hand without saying so.
