Giant-Hunter Forefather of the Magyars

Hungarian ⟨Nimród⟩, chronicle form ⟨Ménrót⟩; conflated with the biblical Nimrod 'mighty hunter before the Lord' (Gen. 10). Classed demigod as a legendary culture-hero progenitor. His sons Hunor and Magor and the csodaszarvas (wondrous/enchanted stag) are the core of the origin-myth; the stags pursued are the hinds led by the stag, with Enéh ('hind') as the totemic mother.
