Endu Dara Tinchin Temaga, 'the Maiden of the Brass Ring', is a daughter of the war-god Sengalang Burong and the divine bride of the human hunter Menggin. In the central augury myth Menggin shoots a bird whose shed plumage becomes a woman's ornamented skirt; following it into the sky, he wins the maiden in marriage. Their union bridges the human and divine kindreds, and their son Surong Gunting is the hero who ascends to his grandfather's longhouse to receive the laws of augury, war and ritual for mankind. In variant chants she is named Endu Sudan Galigan Tinchin Mas, 'the Maiden of the Golden Ring', and sources differ on the precise form of her name and on how many of Sengalang Burong's daughters are distinguished by name.
