Temugedege is the intellectually disabled elder brother of Ozidi the Elder. When the men of Orua, unwilling to grant the kingship to any of the great warriors, ironically raise the harmless Temugedege to the throne, his claim to the tributes owed a king inflames the rival captains. Their refusal and the ensuing quarrel lead directly to the assassination of Ozidi the Elder, making Temugedege the unwitting hinge of the whole tragedy. Like every major figure in the saga he is given his own praise-chant in performance.
