Kutsafugu is the human hero of one of the Kalapalo myth-and-song performances set down by Basso. In common with other Kalapalo narratives of mortal protagonists, his tale carries him into the dangerous world of the itseke, where song and proper conduct rather than force secure his passage. He belongs to the class of human figures whose experiences among powerful beings define, by contrast, the ethic of restraint and generosity that the Kalapalo prize.
