Aranzal is the wonder-horse of Jangar and a named actor in the epic in his own right, in keeping with the Mongolic heroic tradition in which the hero's steed is his indispensable companion. A swift bay stallion, he carries Jangar across vast distances, endures the ordeals of the campaigns, and is credited with intelligence and loyalty beyond that of an ordinary animal. His prominence in the narrative, where his growth and feats are recounted alongside his rider's, makes him inseparable from the figure of Jangar himself.
